Pics - The Bollywood's Nagins: The myth of a shape-shifting ichhadhari nagin is well entrenched in Indian tradition. Rightly so, the scriptwriters and directors in Hindi cinema have often used this myth to weave stories of love, separation and revenge.
This Friday’s release Hisss starring Mallika Sherawat as a snake-woman has a somewhat similar plot. A nagin and her naag are separated in their most intimate moment - while mating - by an explorer. As the vengeful nagin sets out in search of her mate, she leaves behind a trail of dead bodies. The roles of similar deadly but righteous nagins have been played in the past by a host of actresses, from Vyjantimala and Reena Roy to Sridevi and Rekha.
